how about a mixture of both and more? environment energy can be used for small and simple things like a small fan or a toy, for bigger things, something like elemental crystals, and industrial sized things like a factory traditional energy sources like coal or electricity(At that point you can also go into politics of Fontaine because ofmarket dominance or environmental damage). My point is don't limit yourself to one energy source and make sure to give them perks and downsides. For example, environmental energy can be an easy but very weak energy source or let the user of the device become the energy source with the perk of it being mobile and cheap but inconsistent in output and being a stamina drain. It gives you the capability to put limits on a creation and gives a reason for upgrades.

I personally don't think that it is optimal for you to do that as it is essentially giving up creativity and content for ease of writing. If you want to create the best ff, you can then your current approach to this problem may cause a bit of trouble later on. To summarize, it might limit you in the future, but if you still want to do it like that, then I will respect your choice in this matter.

Unehehs_your_eheh:Thanks as always for the advice Weltraum, to be honest, this isn't going to be anything that has an immediate impact on the story yet, Carman still hasn't really grown out of the "it's a game world" yet and until he starts seeing Teyvat as a real breathing world, he isn't going to be able to resonate or fully understand the elements as he will still subconsciously think of them as codes in a game. due to the advice I've been reading so far, I think that I'll have Carman start out having a limited pool of elemental energy, probably affected by his Int or Con stat. he will be able to absorb energy from nearby sources, but if he is in a place, let's say the Sumaru desert where there would be little to no Hydro element (from what I've understood from Nervulette's in-game voiceline) he would not be able to regain much of what he depletes. eventually,.he will learn how to draw from and manipulate external sources like electro crystals, and in the shop there will be very expensive skills that would allow him to regenerate elements (separate for each element) at fixed speeds, but start out at 1 or 2 ep (elemental particals) per second, and be very expensive skill exp wise to upgrade.

honestly the second option because you'll be getting him into magitech or technomancy which will not only approve his engineering skills but also his affinities and abilities for the elements by imbuing his creations with elemental effects

I think it should be okay if Carman will make her own energy device or elemental reactor for his energy supply

I have an idea. How about he tries Harness the elements But he fails. The system gives an emergency quest to save his life. I was thinking he could make his own Iron Man Arc reactor or be a xenoblade chronicles 2 blade eater/ aka be Connect to ryuzu. If you go with option one, he's going to need to keep upgrading his reactor. And with option two train they're connection.

just make a product that increases intelligence, consequently creating a stronger product than the previous one until you obtain absolute intelligence and solo fiction
