asteroids would be a much easier resource to exploit than normal versions of mining them would be because "homelaner" can bring the asteroid to a specialized station to harvest all the materials without having to deal with most of the dangerous things normally associated with asteroid mining

Ok, the first thing that all space faring civilisation needs is asteroid mining. There are many great youtube videos explaining how that works. Ill suggest on that first.
