His planning to get ready is going way to slow, this is more influenced by the author than smart MC, for all he knows the Day is this Monday, better be ready early then drag your feet. Like I said, its the author knowing when things go side ways so he makes the MC relaxed, bad planning.

Why does he care whether he looks suspicious or not when there is a zombie apocalypse coming? Buying weird things isn't enough to get the police involved unless he's buying the ingrediants for a bomb.
