The benefits obtained from leaving the village with Orochimaru far outweigh the risks especially when OG Sasuke was able to beat him with just 3 years of dedicated training while current MC will have many more years of training to build an exceptional foundation for future training especially by Orochimaru. Orochimaru wouldn't try to possess Sasuke until his Sharingan was fully mastered his various jutsus were honed to the extreme and body trained and enhanced to perfection.

I have a suggestion if you like. You can have your intended harem become the Uchiha main branch and have those you're not fond of or don't like but they like the MC can be given the chance to be a part of the newly established side branch of the Uchiha that the MC will create after achieving his goals.
