I think in books only Voldemort and Snape could fly without any external aid and it hasn't been explained in too much depth. So, I feel there isn't a direct way to fly in Harry potter and also mc isn't at that level right now with magic proficiency.
I fully support the idea of MC flying on a sword, including that it can help in combat, as an autonomous creation like the Oriana ball, floating around MC!
