Is it a good story? Yes. Is it feeling that if Cintra is to survive the MC needs plot armor? Yes. You don't win a war by having one person knowing what is to happen and only him preparing, now he will spend months or years training... the time frame just doesn't work. If this was 20 years before, sure. 5, 8 maybe, possibly even 3? No chance.
