past is past, present is present. it maybe stupid but i wanted to portray that the wrongs done in a past life, needn't affect the current. except MC nobody knows what they did in the past lives, and so have different personalities since birth. (like soul is washed anew and all, with no memories) so what would MC choose, cling to a past that didn't shape the current Alice or accept the bygones as bygones because Alice isn't alessa.
