New theory:instead of Steve being an out right b*stard, he did like Ruby but picked up on her lack of enthusiasm the first night. He assumed she didn’t want to be with him and was just being forced by her family and now she’s just confirming that in his head. Although now we have more of her background I do wonder if even she knows whether she does actually love him.

i think why steve acted like that was because he is in love with ruby, but ruby is just like a machine operate by her family. she wrote down everything about him, always tried to match what he likes and don't and made steve desparate, until at this point , i dunno.if ruby likes steve or not. i think steve want ruby loves him for who he is, not because her family asked her too, want ruby become her self. but this just my 5 cents thought
