Unfortunately I read the chapter a little late, but here is what I think (great chapter, by the way): you are building what to me seems something quite obvious but well chosen, knowing you and your way of writing, you plan to have some kind of conflict for which you call your second volume, which is again, a great choice, then you're building MC connections with important characters for the next part of your MC's life. Doctor Thomas is obviously a bridge to many things, including a way of conflict resolution in the medical world and connections with other characters, House is obviously not the only important character who was at one time under the wings of Doctor Thomas. I am almost completely sure that we will meet Ellis Grey in any of the next chapters, perhaps more characters and all thanks to Dr. Thomas. Also something else that I notice is the way in which PJ treats "fame" I can see how you are going to "torture" your MC with more of what he seeks to avoid, I theorize that you will use the attacks to give much more public attention no desired by the MC. I hope it is not by avoiding it (obviously it is a tragedy and like any tragedy we cannot deny that many wish it had not happened) but by participating in collective efforts to help.
