It would save erza from having to take the hit which would allow the defense to the Jose's shadows to be tighter and then lucy wouldn't be taken so easily. Then with the awakened magic from a god slayer he should be able to defeat 2 of the element four. Doing what I have stated should complete the quest and bonus objectives.
