one of the problems I'm having with the story how he seems to be vaguely keeping distance from the starks for a couple of reasons 1 at any point some of his actions could cause issues with his liege lord 2 tying them closer is better at least in the short term what with the white walkers in the future 3 he honestly doesn't really need to at least at this point even if he's planning on becoming a paramount or something in the future ...... another issue I'm having with this story is 1 the beginning where Jon arryan promised to give him the iron islands in the future I just can't see any way of him promising something like that especially to such a small lord he may technically be a major northern lord but in the end he at that point was the Lord of an island with low population low income and even lower political standing especially with how notorious iron born are for rising up and causing issues the potential of it happening wasn't small only way I see him having said that was if he said it in jest and jorah being able to use it for more concessions..... another issue is as far as I know the crown and lord paramount wouldn't be able to take the silver mine it belongs to whoever's land it's on only thing is would be that it could be heavily taxed I mean you already have examples of it with the westernlands having several gold mines add in I doubt there isn't any other mines in other lands most lord's wouldn't accept someone being able to just come into lands they own and being able to just take it so I feel this is definitely a plot hole
