Ok just a thought here he really was trying to get her away not kill her think about how insistent the person was that only Oriana could escape not her father because he can’t truly bring himself to hurt her but he still wants her grandfather dead for killing his mother but realized that she won’t leave him so he changed it up so they could both get away

I wouldn't say he has given up; he is biding his time until he can work out these unforseen kinks his father and now Ori threw at him. I sympathize with Arlan's plight but feel horrible for Ori who is literally 2 seconds had her entire world crash around her. Almost makes learning she was a witch the easiest thing in this world compared to learning more of her existence was an utter lie and her beloved grandpa may be the reason her life is in this portion of turmoil.
