I kinda disagree with everyone else. They are both modern people living in this ‘other’ world temporarily. That was an act of friendship and encouragement. Aside from the fact that it is sort of in the past in a weird way and had to happen to set up the rest of the story… To me it says far more about him than her, that her innocent act of supprt was interpreted that way.

I feel like this had to happen and that nothing that is happening now, could she have changed.
