I don't think Hinata is much stronger than Neji as you say. She even coughed up a lot of blood, which shows that Neji clearly could have won. Spitting blood is not a harmless thing, if you do it it means that your organs have a problem and that you have damage inside your body. The fact that Hinate allows herself to be hit and spits blood shows that she's not really a ninja. I'm getting the impression more and more that I'm reading a Chinese FF where the students let themselves be beaten up and don't show their full abilities for no logical reason.
