Regarding damage issues, I think you should leave it as if you were playing at maximum difficulty. I have the bad luck of not having played any halo but I have read a lot of fan fic and I follow a lot of people. You should also take into account basic things like that the spartan's energy shield is not the same in halo 1 as it is in halo 5, due to the development of technology and the like. besides that titanium A is very bad with plasma. I would make the protagonist suffer a lot with the weapons of the covenant, because I understand that it can resist human cartridges but it is illogical with plasma, which itself is based on melting everything it touches. As for the Star Wars story, I for one am not interested in that premise. although you could see some story told from the separatist side.
