So the ancient and venerable house of potter isn't an ancient and venerable house in your fanfic. Fair enough, these are what I like to call pre nerfs or backstory nerfs to a charachter. The vault nerf was one of them same with a few other things so far. Presently I'm overlooking such nerfs due to the fact that our mc is talented in return. If the crest in this is weaker than literally any other ancient and venerable house that constitutes another nerf compared to the other students which would make our mc essentially the same as reading a nerfed into the ground magical cripple incapable of making an actual impact on the world at which point I'd just stop reading. We shall see I guess but if malfoy of all people ends up stronger than our mc what's the point?
