I would assume that these explanations are here in the spirit of forging more concrete descriptions of these very complex abilities. In the future, these abilies will be used in tandem or against other abilities, and right now, we are seeing the clear limits and disparities between them. Remember that these are outer god abilities, and there are already abilities concerning fate and time. They have to find a way to make these abilities stand out somehow while making them unique. In the first book, when (less complex) explanations like this were used, people ended up dropping the book nonetheless. This should be expected.
