As for the traps and other goodies he bought, they will most probably stop working as well once the dungeon goes into the negative again, so that was a bit of a waste. The only good thing were the mines, sure, he will have to pay even more upkeep, but at least now he will have a new source of income apart from all the corpses and gear from the invaders.
