Mc not having experience is more his own fault. There are clubs and battle towers for that.

Btw if you want some inspiration you might wanna watch pokemon generations on youtube, it follows the hidden storyline of the videogame protaganists in anime format. Should be canon since it on the official pokemon channel

Why did he almost lost to Ash? No experience? He’s been with his Pokemon for almost 10 years. He can get battling experience anywhere. That just means he has no talent in battling. I guess he will be disappointment if this is his performance. And he’s also a follower of Ash.
