It is not explained too well it seems. Thanks! But there are several colonies. Not just the ones you saw little sneak peeks of.

Really makes you wonder on what parameters the leaders of the colonies were chosen, since one is a great guy, one a failure and another a dictator, oh and a dead guy too.
