Oh that boy is going to get crushed.First to become a squire you were often not a page,and pages were trained in arms among the other things they learn to become squires.Now that means that all if not most of these boys have been at lest been a little bit trained by the master-at-arms of whatever household they were apart of much like Ulf.Generally speaking squires were chosen out of the pages of the knight household or just straight out picked by the knight,so what Ulf is doing is out of the norm.Now the reason why Ulf is maybe doing this is because of were he is politically.Squires served another purpose other then make elite and skilled warriors,they served a political purpose as well.Pages were noble boys that were sent by their household to another to make connections to that household and to improve their houses standing and maybe make alliances with said household.So considering what household Ulf is apart of you can guess that who Ulf squire is every important; have a in with Ulf, is to have a in with royalty.And considering that squires have a deep bond with their knight due to their dutys, yeah, that poor little boy is going to get crushed.There is no way that those noble houses are going to pass this up,it is going to get cutthroat.
