From an objective perspective, what the mc needs is the idea that he is Real and not in a simple world with NPCs. Audrey's innocence, kindness, and justice is a contrasting but complimenting aspect with Alexander's pragmatic and rather cold thinking

I originally wrote it as a reply, but I'm going to leave it here. If there is going to be a love interest, they will be friends/allies during the plot and only end up with each other in the finale. Writing romance is cringe if you are not a skilled writer, and I'm obviously not.
