It's unfortunate that the author had to cut the story short, but I understand where this is coming from. In a way, we get to avoid the fate of this novel becoming stale from overused tropes. This ending, while surprising, does tie up most of the loose ends, which is satisfying. Thank you, author and translator, for making this novel possible!
