These Chinese guys really are forcing people to other sites. Ill never read stories on my phone simply because its uncomfortable for me. Oh well, not like Webnovel actually have any good novels anymore. For the last year its been so hard to find anything worthwhile. And there probably is some good writing in Webnovel, but because search function is so bad. that is impossible to find anything

they are trying the same Move as Chinese websites. it may work in China but not in the world.

is this the reason most of the fanfics I've been reading stopped updating?

It's not affecting all fanfics, I've clicked on ones in the power rankings (unsurprisingly) they work just fine without the download requirement.
