The problem here is that there's no real reason for the baroness to be doing all of this. When did he tell her to delay them at all costs? So she's getting married for resources to delay them when it's not even needed. I feel like he'd wake up if they get close to him. I also don't think it would have taken years to get past the curse. If this curse area was so dangerous as stop them for years then the MC could have just fought them there for an easy win. Also there's no way the mercs would have tried for years to get past a dangerous area with no compensation so I have to assume this is like the 10th group of mercs the priest joined. Basically a lot of the time skip developments don't seem natural.
