Malachi is doubting himself but I don't see that as a step back. It means he is considering it seriously and for that he will have to go through and adress his guilt to move forward. He is burdened because now he sees that he wants all of her. It is a good signs to me and even as he tries to pull back, he seems to be unable too. It will also be more difficult now since Ravina is slowly showing interest in him, asking about what he is like and somehow waiting for him to come home. Also allowing him to help her with less protests and him being gentle in his approach. I am happy he spoke to Chanan and hopefully him and Ravina can soon slowly talk little by little
