I don't know what the author has planned for Rui after this tournament, but I believe Rui should focus on learning breathing techniques when this is all over. From what has been shown so far, breathing techniques have a huge affinity with his martial art, he will have much more flexibility and adaptability to change his fighting style for different opponents. What he can do is whenever he chooses a new set of techniques to train (usually he chooses 3 or 4) he can reserve one of them for breathing techniques.

Though he can probably learn a few techniques that help increase his minds prowess along side the normal groth of his martial path
