Even with his medal to sense demons, he has knowledge about other ruins, which cause him to take that into account. It might look exploring, but it's more like making sure that nothing will harm him as he descend. This is a 'ruin' after all, and he has been warned and trained to be careful inside. Maybe I have to add that details about Dimitri as well. I mean, while the opponents are strong, Dimitri was a former captain and candidate of the commander's position. It took more than that to defeat Dimitri and Noel could see that fact clearly. While traps might be effective, but Legolaz (or more like the common people who can't differentiate traps) is still there. Causing harm to them can also be considered a direct assault to the kingdom, so no trap. Hope that's enough explanation. :)
