One thing to keep in mind here. The MC in HOTD story is one of the last or the last person Clark recruited to help him out. As far as the timeline goes. At least that's what I got from it when the inclusion of the other reincarnators like himself toward the "end" of the story. So in a sense Clark is also learning what kind of person to recruit to help him in the Omniverse. So from the perspective of this fanfics omniverse itself & not just the writing it makes sense.
