Well mages focus on the mind, so maybe when he became a god he tried to use entropy to replace mana and it caused his soul or consciousness to split and the evil Lucius killed the kind one, or that dead body is just a representation of the kindness of Lucius dead after he tried to use entropy

When Alex asked the question he most likely imagined his future to be like one of those cultivation MC's where he would had been strong but kind as well, with a beautiful wife or even harem by his side and with many friends he cherishes. He would remember his 9th question and fondly look back at his "kind benefactor" god that gave him this 2nd opportunity in life in a magical world that allowed him to become so strong and get everything he ever wished for. God and Warmaciah looked at this cliche plot and went "NOPE!"

Split personality makes a lot of sense. I remember gregorio saying that Lucius would make incredibly rash and irrational statements or go on massacres and then regret it the next day. One such decision was the elimination of the paths. If good Lucius was split and killed by insane Lucius it makes sense to me, since it was already stated Shang could remove his humanity. What could stop one from removing a personality? Or maybe there were 2 souls.

If there wasn't a god prior why do children of calamity exist? it seems too structured a system to always have one yet only emperor abominations have any sort of intelligence. May you fail at the last step Young Master Shang.

I believe he always been split personalty. The author has clued us in a while ago. Remember when thunder emperor said how the mage god has m extreme mode swings like there were two different people in one mind.
