If I understand correctly, the Plagues are not their past self but a potential future version of them created by the Spell for this Nightmare. That explain why they coexist. Maybe it was explained earlier and missed it.

You’re right, that had to be their past self being Defiled but I struggle with the fact that they coexist. Also if the cohort reset their state at the start of a cycle why wouldn’t the 13 millions others challengers do so too ?

Saviour6:More like the previous version of them that became corrupted because of mad prince thus failing to conquer the nightmare before transcending in it, if they weren't corrupted the current cohort wouldn't be fighting defiled versions of their selves.
