Maybe [Fated] didn’t think Sunny had enough good transcendent memories so it sent some nightmares that give them. Rare memories = lucky, rare nightmare creatures = unlucky, which gives [Fated] double the reason to pull nightmares to Sunny.

is the distance that Sunny's shadows can travel an area affect or can it be extended in a straight line like the beacons of Gondor in L.O.T.R.?

why not leave the ravenous imp behind with the covetis coffer to collect the soul shards and other useful items after all he can hide in the shadows if the nightmare hordes arrive and he can have a small feast.
