Another thought similar to my comment - what if something that manages to "rise" from the bottom sky of the Chained Isles takes on ranks similar to humans rather than Nightmare creatures? It is considered "Ascended" since it has gone above that seemingly bottomless emptiness 🤔

Ascended Reflection? could this have to do with the situation of the Chained Isles where at night there are stars in the sky and "stars" in the unknown depths below - sort of like a reflection of the upper part?
