Just as he decided to take his own life, that's when Felix broke into the mansion. Felix was the first one to ever see his true form and not be scared or disgusted by that. This seemingly small reason saved Moni who then wanted to save Felix. So he took over the mansion, enslaved everyone, and brought his sister's to make sure Felix was safe.... There's more to it, of course, but I shall not spoil!
