I know I shouldn't but I'm going to say it either way. she has some serious mental problems. dissociation from reality, possessiveness, obsessiveness, etc. she needs help. urgently. but I would also like to remember everyone that this doesn't mean she's forgiven for whatever she does. sincerely, growing up in that kind of toxic family...it would be stranger if someone would end up being what we socially call "normal" and "acceptable" kids grow under the hands of their parents and are influenced by the environment. what is surely difficult but necessary, is for them to shape their own mind with the resources they have available. a kid would believe whatever the adults tell him, but a teenager won't. that's why most of the time the so called "rebellious phase" of teenagers isn't really as bad as it sounds. it is sometimes rebellion against ingrained ideas of the parents, who can't let their kids "stray from the righ path", the path they decided for them... this whole novel until now, especially all of the family members, made me so frustrated that my teeth and heart hurts. maybe I can see myself in some specific occasions and that is why it hurts... here ends my rambling hope you have a wonderful day
With the toxic environment of their family, like Ciaye said “being continuously reminded that she’s sick” Chunhua had developed some weird mechanism of dealing with life. For her life is a script and everyone should stick by it. The whole family needs psychological treatment. The root cause is of course the father.
I think she is mentally ill. How can someone think about a role play in a family? How can she think she is playing a sickly one in the family and her twin sister role is to be by her side and think that her sister's role is for her to be her forever's shadow and be good for nothing in everyone eyes when they are compared to each other! Who thinks like that!
