i love kuahel but why is he always ended up to be the one who protect Maxi ? I cant decide if he fancy her or is he trying to get her for other reason !? Since monster openly threat Riftan I keep thinking that Maxi was always under a few serious danger. like they are targetting her. oh My skeptical brain works really fast right now
I think because their friendship began not because he was introduced to her by Riftan, but because he's one of the first people Maxi reached out to herself. Maxi also lowered her guard and sees him only as a friend because he's a clergyman and there's clear line for romantic interest being impossible, unlike with Sejuleu even though they're all Wigrew incarnate He probably paid little attention at first but Maxi is an interesting person and it piqued his interest, not to mention they're forced to work together in various wars and Maxi is a capable wizard, making him trust her more for magic works and seeking her out more.
When Maxi is confident and wants to get things done, she's going to do whatever it takes. Now that they are trusting each other more (yup, Riftan is really reeling in his overprotectiveness for Maxi), they work well together as a team. Cheering for their victory! Ruth is saving the heart attack and the nagging for Maxi after all of this is over. Poor Ruth...
