It’ll be a very long time before Riftan can get Maxi to a satisfactory place of safety. Even if she was free to leave now, it’s a long way back to Anatol. They are still very much at an impasse. He never wants to be away from her, but he wants her safe. As a knight, he’s always going to be running into danger and she’s always going to want to join. Her goal is to replace Ruth! This is fueled by the same desire to always be side by side. He wants her wrapped in jewels in a fortress and she wants to be with him on his perilous adventures. How is he ever going to be okay with that? If he had gotten his way, and left Anatol to start over instead of her joining the Tower, they’d still be regularly separated by his commissions and monster raids to replace their wealth. The only way for them to truly be together all the time is if he feels okay with her following him around. Very interested to see how he gets there. I wonder if he even recognizes this is the case. Or maybe he does and that’s why he’s constantly in self loathing. He’s the one who made her a Calypse.
Riftan has an obsession for Maxi safety due to his past loosing his mother, he is scared to meet the same fate and doesn't want to loose Maxi and he feels all his loved ones always leave but he needs to overcome those fears and the more you see Maxi as a capable mage, your fears will loosen and she won't leave you like your mother in form of death.
Is it only me sensing that Temple Knights actually have an alliance with the dark mages? They help the others find their base on the surface, but they intend to mislead the search party to cover for the dark mages. In previous chapters, whenever they found a lead, the Temple Knights reacted like they already know it. Seeing that there is a replica of the Basilica of Osiriya, of all the other kingdoms, is another hint. And Kuahel Leon's attention to Maxi is kind of treating her as a threat. No one, could have noticed. Just a conspiracy theory...
