I'm going to be honest... this novel is pretty much garbage. 90% is filler conversations. MC should just lay down the law the moment they arrive.
They almost all always are. The real wonder is others stories have tried the overbearing MC'S and the story suffers just the same. I'd say it's like this, Harry Potter focused on overall character development, but only glimpses of magic, and became world renowned. Could it have focused on magic first? Of course not, it wouldn't work to have the big villain just show up and get stomped, the characters and organizations with ties formed a web making an entire series. Here everything is just assumed the reader knows how it all works in this world, so why bother fleshing it out. But it makes jack all for sense then so we get lame villain exposition before an inevitable defeat by Bond...I mean the MC.
