There are mages in remnant, a grand total of six, the reason there is only six natural born mages(four of them only half count) is the ability to have magic naturally was ripped from humans and faunas by the brother gods and aura is what filled in the hole left behind, the two true mages left behind are salam an ozma, Salem is the only full blown natural mage left, ozma is a shadow of himself with nothing but the bare minimum of magic to maintain his form of cursed immortality which he can’t remove, the other four mages are the four hunks of magic ozma removed from himself to give to his and Salem’s four daughters that have been jumping hosts every time the current host dies. The reason the magic in the atmosphere feels wrong is probably due to its stagnant state, five mages and three magical abilities(ozma, crow, and raven) do not a global mana cycle make, so the magic of the world has grown almost completely stagnant to the point it began crystallizing removing itself from the cycle entirely until humans started mining and using it up, thus creating a Demi-Mana cycle, it is not anywhere near efficient as a true mana cycle but it has sorta made one thus buying the planet time, so dust is used up as new dust forms causing the mana of the world to circulate at a glacial speed, but this is no substitute to a true mana-cycle, as it means remnant as a world that had innately possessed mana is dying, and if nothing is done either dust will form faster than it can be used or dust will be used faster than it can form, both scenarios lead to the worlds death, if all the mana in the world crystallizes than as a world that innately possessed mana and thus depends on it will no longer be capable of supporting life and thus will become a dead world, but if dust is used faster than it can form than mana will no longer circulate and will become more and more stagnant, and that will have just as dire (though unknown)consequences, though I have a theory that the Grimm pools (which I believe to be artificially stagnant mana pools made by the god of darkness)spawn Grimm faster and with stronger Grimm the more stagnant mana becomes so with that in mind and no more dust, well those consequences would be pretty obvious.(though I can see Grimm having countless other origins but this origin works for this particular theory as I can’t think of any other consequences for stagnant mana at the moment that would be just as dire) So remnant is an actively dying planet, so what are the two players(ozma and salam’s)plans to deal with this, well both want to use the four relics to summon the brother gods, though ozma wants to wait until humans and faunas met the requirements they left him, but that’s both their final goals essentially, the reason salam wants to summon them as far as I can tell is so they can kill her, so her plan is to suicide by the ones who made her immortal and thus can kill her so she doesn’t care that remnant is dying, ozma on the other hand is waiting until humanity meets the vague requirements the brother gods left to pass their “judgement” which i’m Certain he thinks will mean they fix the planet they destroyed, just one problem they are not creator gods of any kind as far as I can tell(besides creatures, but any god beyond a certain level can do that) so I sincerely doubt they can actually fix the planet they shamelessly wrecked, they even drove all magical flora and fauna to extinction so the planet couldn’t even slowly repair itself, also based on their actions and decisions I can safely say they aren’t going to keep their promises so even if humanity met their requirements they’d just destroy what’s left of remnant anyway, and regardless I doubt humanity is gonna reach that requirement before the planet dies anyway and ozma is perfectly fine letting the planet die if humanity can’t reach said vague requirement. So both ozma and salam’s plans are terrible and only end in tears no matter what, that means it’s up to our Mc to
