These fights are incredibly frustrating at this point. Everything Octavia learns is useless in the fights, and she conveniently forgets anything she's been taught. It'd be fine if it was the first few fights, but it's every fight they get in. She could use her tail to sweep, coil, and smash. She's supposedly stronger than most humans, but it never works out that way. Her polearm should have enough reach to be able to use it to stab with, so it shouldn't be completely useless in a a fight while in smaller spaces. She's gotten some training, and been in quite a few fights. There's so much she can do, and she fights like a weak human without leaning on everything she's learned or has. On top of all of that, she spends forever thinking about how to fight, giving her enemies plenty of time to act and overwhelm her. I don't want to be too rude, I just wanted to voice my opinion at this point because it's been bothering me. Your writing is wonderful, I'm just nit-picking at this point.
I understand where you are coming from and I do need to work on it. I guess I look at trying to make the fight more eventful, rather than, her being stronger means she easily takes people down, and things end quickly and easily (not that that is what you are saying either). In this instance, all I can say is that she only had a couple of days worth of training, which she hasn't had the time to constantly repeat and drill the things she learnt into her head. Additionally, her tail is still reforming, so it's not at its peak which hinders her a little as well and given the size of the room they are in, the Poleaxe just isn't feasible as a weapon to use. If she tries to swing it she's going to get it lodged into a beam or a barrel or something. Then there is the hulking beast of a man she is against. But, I understand your point, I shall have to think harder in regards to the next fight scene.
