Not just a new phone, he should grab back ups and some laptops. Solar chargers and generator if he can if minis. His phone gets trashed then that's it. He should have some heavy cased one on hand, a spare and more stashed away. Grab multiple bats, crowbars, etc. Thick clothing to prevent scratches or zombie blood splatter from landing in cuts or the mouth and eyes. Lots to think about.
