I guess he’d rather be the “head of a chicken” than the “tail of a phoenix” despit the endless agony. Jack’O, on the other hand, would build a terrifying phoenix amalgamation out of fox pelts, chickens, and booze to head. I guess that’s why he’s the Demon King and not the Village Chief.
