Store Defense [Chapter 5]

Alex laughs while we drive down the road.

"I can't help but remember you calling Everyn a murderer, but it seems you are pretty chill with killing someone."

Alex says as Ven sighs. Evan stares blankly out the window as Devon pulls up to the coffeehouse.

"I won't let anything get in the way of my goal, and if you get in my way, I'll kill you as well."

Devon says coldly as we all get out of the car, opening the backdoors to let Ven, Alex, and Evan out. We all quickly walk into the coffeehouse, hearing sirens approaching in the distance.

"Shit, we need to do this quickly."

Ven mumbles as we all quickly walk up to the counter. The lady behind the counter looks at us, clearly scared. Devon speaks up.

"What do you know of Maven Gor?"

He asks seriously, the woman clearly reacting to the name.

"I, uh, he. I just. Who are you talking about?"

She asks, almost stalling for time. Evan quickly stands on the counter and starts touching ceiling tiles.

What the hell is wrong with with this guy? He does random shit and doesn't seem to have any sense of urgency or direction.

I think as Devon grabs the woman across the counter.

"Listen! you either tell us everything you know or I kill you right here!"

Devon yells as she stares at him, petrified with fear. As she starts to speak up, we hear the sirens getting louder.

"I honestly don't know anything about him, he just used to come in and speak to our manager! But he's not here!"

She yells as Alex quickly runs to the back of the store, bringing Evan with him. Devon speaks up.

"See if you guys can find an address back there! What is your manager's name? Tell me!"

Devon demands as her eyes start tearing up.

"His name is Marcus, Marcus Sears."

Within seconds Alex runs out with a piece of paper with the workers' addresses and numbers.

"It says he lives on Eighteen West Street. That's about a mile from here, we won't make it on foot."

He says as I quickly grab Devon's wrist and speak up.

"Lady, I don't know what your name is, and I couldn't care less. You have two choices right now, get in that car and drive off as the police get here. To lead them away from us. Or we kill you right now. The police won't shoot you if you explain your situation, but we will."

She looks at me as Devon growls and lets her go. She quickly nods and points to the police car. Ven keeps the handgun he has pointed at her.

Devon quickly puts the keys on the table and she picks them up. I speak up.

"Wait till you see them coming, then speed off. They will most likely chase, or worst case scenario, they split their forces."

I say as she nods and runs outside to the car. We all squat behind the counter and keep an eye on her. The sirens becoming louder and louder. As she puts the car in park and starts driving off, we hear Evan humming.

We look over and see him standing with a uniform on, and a nametag.

"Eric."

I say quietly while squinting at him.

Fuck, what is up with this guy. He's so weird.

Seconds later a cop car pulls up in front of the store. Ven quickly hugs the wall, staying behind a closed window with the shades closed and crawling under a table as all of us run to the back except Evan and Ven. 2 police officers quickly come in with weapons drawn, seeing Evan first.

I'm watching through the cameras along with Alex and Devon. As the cops run in, Evan waves.

"Hey! You're one of the people we heard about! Someone with a paper bag over his head. Get on the ground!"

They scream as Evan keeps waving.

"You sick fuck! You killed my best friend!"

One officer says while walking towards Evan and pulling out a metal baton. As he swings towards Evan, Ven crawls from under a table and shoots the police officer that was holding a gun. He falls to the ground limply and the officer with the baton quickly spins around, obviously confused. Before he can react to the situation, Evan grabs the handcuffs from the officers waist and holds them up.

The officers quickly aims his gun at Ven, but Evan puts the chain of the cuffs around the officers neck and pulls him to the ground. I quickly run out of the back, grabbing a box cutter on the way out. Ven grabs the gun from the dead cop while I run over and slit the other guards throat.

With his dying breaths and final moments, he points his gun at me and pulls the trigger. My ears ring from the shot a little over a foot from my face as I stumble back against the wall. A sharp pain across my face causes my heart to race. I see everyone scrambling, pulling the dead bodies back to the freezer.

I touch my face, seeing my hand covered in blood. My collar bone and chest are tickles by the flowing blood. I stumble forward and slowly walk to the back. I see everyone come out and leave, each shooting me a glance before walking out the back door. I lean against the wall, my head pounding.

As I struggle to compose myself, I feel a hand on my shoulder. I look up to see Evan put my arm over his shoulder and help me outside. As he assists me, I see several people outside with their mouths open, clearly screaming. I hear the muffled sounds of pops and bangs.

I look over to see Ven shooting a few people. They were dragged from their car in the wide alley and killed. Evan helps me over to the car and pushes me into the backseat.

Ven and Alex look at me, I watch their lips move but barely hear anything. My ears feel as though I'm 50 feet underwater. I see them looking through the glovebox and center console, quickly pulling out a bottle of pills and water. They hand it to me and Devon puts the car into drive.

I slowly and carefully take 3 of the pills without reading the labels. I'm dizzy and dazed, a massive headache setting in.

Damnit, this hurts. I don't know what's happening.
