@_Transcendent - This argumentation is faulty on many levels. I would even say makes no sense whatsoever...
Both of them were totally unexpected circumstances for a civilization so weak. It's like grabbing a random guy on the street and him turning out to be a billionaire. Had there not beeb the wild card Varian, ghostship would've been captured and humans would've ended during Valos saga.
DaoistTamashii:Fighting and trying to erase humanity has much higher risk compared to any diplomatic approach. Varian alone with the ghostship or any human with an item (the items and the inheritance were unknown in detail to the emperor) could inform the Abyssals' enemies possibly through the barrier. And one-upping them AFTER all the bs they did is much more likely than in a diplomatic situation.
