Zentmeister
Dann! first he intentionally screws his ally and conspires against them to accept a humiliating treaty, then he goes on to slaughter trials. Granted they were stone age era savages, he first could have easily tried to open trade ties with them, and by doing so he could have recruited decent work force for his colony. If they refused to comply and accept peaceful solution, he always had the option of using force. However by having his troops slaughter these tribes, Berenger is likely to sow seeds of deep resentment, and rebellion in future.I just hope it does not turn out to be another Battle of Isandlwana for Berenger and his troops, as arrogance seems to have gone to their heads. He needs to to down his machinations, else his allies would find it difficult to trust him.
I agree with ABHIJIT_APSINGIKAR. The German population can not keep up with his ambitions. You have to wait 10+ years to repopulate the area at least. But more than likely a generation or two. It may seem faster, but in reality this is short sighted. I mean even in this chapter the soldiers remark about civilization comparison. So Berengar is use the same troop. Not only that with all brutality Berengar needs more troops to hold down conquered territory. As to his title of “Tyranny of Steel”. I always thought it was because of his industry. Not his personality. Personally, I like the approach of helping people by improving their lives. More food. Better medicine. The list goes on. I think it’s a waste of resources. The bullets and the lives. When that same life could have save thousands. At least that’s what I believe
