Bet he'll be able to take out the chip but will stay in the Monolith due to finding out that he has access to vital information he can help the Union with (like a traitor in the upper echelons of the Union) and decides to keep gathering info from the inside. I dunno, maybe I'm hoping that Ren actually becomes a spy inside the Monolith, and seeing MC's like this is extremely rare for me (I've read none of such occurrences in any novel).
