He needs to go buy an axe and stuff. baseball bat is hollow ya’know, not the best weapon for inflicting damage. Even a decent mace or pick axe would do work. Big sledge Hammer too. Many options that would only take a very quick run to a outdoor store. Seems weird to stick with an option that is so bad when much better is easily available.

He has that random item box. He should open it to see if there's something that would be helpful in there. Also can't he use feathers to level up Kireina and Ervas? There's a few things he could do to make things easier.
