I think the idea of him keeping her by his side supposedly as a girlfriend for over a year and thinking that she's not going to develop feelings is a problem. He is too selfish this relationship is too one side. She is not getting any younger and if she is going to find her own happiness he needs to be done with his fake relationship and move on. He is too clueless and and why should she suffer to make him happy. She gets no real benefits because men can marry at any age and it's never a problem by the time he figures out what he wants a lot of the men she could have had won't want her.
