Yes, I think he knows alot of things, and as for Abi, it was mentioned that she was very proud, hung out with higher ranked people and looked down on lower ranked people, which means that she doesn't look under the surface, she just sees and think what she wants to see and think without wanting to clarify things, her father may have acted kind to her step mom and sis because he didn't want to blow his cover but she may have just went and misunderstood him, but it can be that while trying to protect her he neglected her and distanced himself from her so his enemies doesn't take her as a target or something.

If he knows them it makes sense as to why Duchess didn't gave birth to child after so many years.
