I firmly believe that Gavriel is like the self defense mechanism of Gavreal to protect himself from the pain he was facing in the past. That makes it that its the same soul, but the memories and experiences are split as the part of the defense mechanism. So, it's just Gavriel and Gavreal need to face it and accept it that it's their own journey, and that whatever they experienced is each other's experience and give themselves a continuous memory of what happened, instead of the half and half memory they carry.
